Adherents of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church have observed Demera, the eve of Meskel. 

 

Demera is a convention of the consuming campfire and falls on the eve of Meskel, a celebration which denotes the finding of the cross that Jesus was executed. 

 

In his comment during Demera festivity in Addis Ababa at the Meskel Square today, Abune Mathias, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church called for adequate insurance to the congregation. 

 

The Patriarch additionally asked all to be watchmen of Ethiopia's one of a kind culture of solidarity and harmony. 

 

The strategic network, senior government authorities, including Dr. Hirut Kassaw, Minister of Culture and Tourism, went to the festival. 

 

Meskel is one of the significant Ethiopian Orthodox celebrations. Ethiopians have been commending this day for a thousand years. 

 

It is one of Ethiopia's legacies enlisted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a component of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
