Sunderland’s Sessegnon called up by Benin ahead of Newcastle derby

STEPHANE Sessegnon faces a return trip to Africa just days before next week’s Tyne-Wear derby.

The Sunderland hitman (pictured) has been named in the 17-man Benin squad for Wednesday’s African Cup of Nations qualifier in Ethiopia.

While many of Sunderland’s squad are on international duty next week, the Black Cats will be sweating on the condition of the ever-present Sessegnon.

The 27-year-old former Paris St Germain man has emerged as the key figure for the Wearsiders this season and Sunderland will be desperate for him to play a pivotal part in the trip to the Sports Direct Arena on Sunday, March 4.

Newcastle have similar worries of their own though, with January signing Papiss Demba Cisse selected in the Senegal squad for a qualifier in South Africa.

But Cisse’s domestic and international strike partner Demba Ba has been left out of the squad.

As long as Fraizer is fit and raring to go that is the main thing, seb will score a spectacular free kick.

Thats right Scoobys mate, he’s hopeless most of the time. But when he sees the red and white stripes he becomes a man possessed, just look back to last season for that – 2 goals and 2 assists!

Pending Moderation

lawrie ,is that the same shola that all the thick sad geordies say they want ooot tha club ? the one they say is lazy, the one that is to slow , the one they say wont run wont work for the team ? ( check the cron , you are all shouting for his head !) fifty faced T.G.B.’s bring him the rest of them on ! as for at the moment we are not scared of any team , victory will belong to S.A.F.C

Dont think well see the best of Cisse til next year, so might be an idea to rest him for the derby to give Shola a run out against his favourite opposition.

I mean Cisse isnt fresh enough not Sess!!

Shame but hopefully he’ll not fresh enough to make an impact. Why has Demba Ba been left out? Seems strange, unless the scum have found a sneaky way to keep him!

Considering that our new shirts will have “Invest in Africa” emblazoned across them this may become a bigger problem for us.

British clubs really need to look at the wisdom of buying players who are involved in an international tournament which is played every two years with the qualifying games that go with it. I accept that there is a similar pattern with the European Championships alternating every two years with the World Cup but these tournaments are played outside of the regular European seasons. What makes it worse is that The African Nations are changing the cycle of the tournament meaning that there will be a tournament two years running in the near future.Sessegnon is a good player and he will be missed if he gets injured but at least he is the only player currently playing for Sunderland who will be involved in these games.

lets be honest though even without sess we can win this game, we will be set up with a lone striker so campbell drops in there and barring injuries its same set up as against arsenal FTM

hope he gets through the match ok then he can come back and put another 5 past krul, for the 3rd time this season i might add.sgb’s!ftm

Lets hope he returns back without any poblems and is given a few days rest or very light training, MON knows what hes doing and whats best tho…..FTM

If he played for Man Utd he would get pulled out injured.

disasterous news

Not much of a time difference so hopefully they’ll fly him back first class and he’ll be fully rested. We would miss him more than the mags would miss Cisse.
